Stars soak in spirit of International Yoga Day
On the occasion of the 11th International Day of Yoga, veteran actor Dharmendra reflected on the significance of yoga, its deep roots in Indian civilisation, and how it has positively influenced his own life.
“Yoga can cure many diseases. Remember that health is wealth,” said the Sholay actor. Dharmendra, now in his 80s, expressed his continued enthusiasm for life and work despite the passing years. “Many people call me old, but I am still young,” he said with a smile.
‘You don’t need fancy gyms’
Bollywood couple Rakul Preet Singh and Jackky Bhagnani marked their presence in the Capital, voicing strong support for the Fit India Movement and highlighting yoga as an essential element of a healthy lifestyle. “Fitness is a way of life for both of us. It’s not a shortcut, nor is it a solution just to stay slim. It’s a way of life, and it’s our passion. Wellness, fitness, yoga, it feels great to be connected with Fit India,” Rakul Preet said.
“It is an honour to be part of this journey and to receive the Fit India Couple recognition. We hope to inspire more people to embrace fitness and yoga in their daily lives. You don’t need fancy gyms; it can start right at home,” Rakul said. Reflecting on his journey, Jackky said, “I was once 150 kg and lost 75 kg. I wish I had this kind of motivation earlier. Under the leadership of Modi ji and with Union Minister Mansukh Mandaviya taking active steps, like organising Sunday on Cycle, it feels amazing to be a part of this change.”
Anupam Kher at Times Square
The heart of Manhattan transformed into a celebration of health and mindfulness as the Consulate General of India in New York, in collaboration with Times Square Alliance, hosted the 11th International Day of Yoga at the iconic Times Square. The event was graced by actor Anupam Kher. He said, “I’m extremely happy to be at the world’s most iconic place, Times Square, on the occasion of the 11th International Yoga Day, initiated by our beloved Prime Minister 11 years back. My grandfather was a yoga teacher, so I’ve seen that happening all my life. I practise yoga, and I can see the atmosphere all over the place. It’s a very important message not only for physical health but also for mental health.”
‘Yoga gives me focus’
The day was marked with an event at DLF CyberHub in Gurugram, where yoga enthusiasts gathered under the open sky to practice and reflect on the benefits of yoga. Among the attendees Malaika Arora.
Malaika described yoga as ‘instrumental’ in her life and shared how it has helped her both mentally and physically.
“I would give a lot of credit to my genes, but yoga has been instrumental in shaping a lot of my life. I feel that practising on my mat genuinely makes me happy; it centers me, it gives me focus— all of that. So yes, I would give a lot of credit to yoga in my life.”
