Skill development initiative launched at Navjeevan Centre

In an effort to rehabilitate and empower individuals recovering from substance abuse, an eight-day skill training programme under the Entrepreneurship Development Course was inaugurated on Friday at the Government Navjeevan Centre in Phagwara. The initiative is being implemented under the guidance of Deputy Commissioner of Kapurthala, Amit Kumar Panchal.

The program is jointly organised by the District Employment Bureau and the Rural Self Employment Training Institute (RSETI), with the primary objective of equipping participants with practical skills to enable self-employment and sustainable livelihoods.

Municipal Corporation Phagwara Commissioner Dr Akshita Gupta, who led the launch ceremony, emphasized the significance of such programs in supporting the reintegration of individuals into mainstream society. She stated, “This initiative aims to provide vocational training to individuals overcoming addiction so they can live with dignity and contribute positively to society.”

She further added that, following the completion of their treatment, participants will receive support to establish their own means of livelihood, enhancing their chances of long-term recovery and independence.

Senior Aam Aadmi Party leader Joginder Singh Mann and Mayor Rampal Uppal were also present at the inauguration and expressed their support for the program.

“This course is designed to impart both theoretical and practical knowledge in entrepreneurship and self-employment, giving participants the confidence and tools they need to rebuild their lives,” Dr Gupta noted.
