Demolition of illegal mosque portion begins

The authorities on Sunday began demolishing the illegal portion of a mosque in northwest Delhi’s Mangolpuri area in compliance with a Delhi High Court directive.

Officials clarified that the demolition was limited strictly to the unauthorised construction identified by the court.

The drive took place in the Y-Block locality of Mangolpuri, drawing local attention and leading to a sizeable crowd near the site. To maintain law and order, the Delhi Police, along with seven companies of paramilitary forces, were deployed in and around the area.

“We are ensuring that no breach of peace occurs. The demolition is being carried out peacefully and in accordance with the law,” said a senior police officer overseeing the operation.

Barricades were set up around the site and access was restricted to ensure crowd control. Officials reiterated that the religious sanctity of the structure is being respected, with action taken only against the illegally built portions as identified in court proceedings.
