Mumbai Actress Gargi Maushik Patel Duped Of ₹45,000 In Online Appliance Sale Scam
Mumbai: Popular television and film actress Gargi Maushik Patel has become the victim of cyber fraud, with scammers duping her of ₹45,000 under the pretense of purchasing used home appliances. The incident took place in the Worli area of Mumbai. Following Patel’s complaint, Worli Police have registered an FIR against an unidentified person and launched an investigation.
According to police, in April 2025, the actress posted an advertisement on her Facebook account offering a washing machine for sale. Several individuals contacted her in response, and she shared her mobile number for further communication.
On April 18, a man contacted Patel expressing interest in buying the washing machine. On April 24, the same man, identifying himself as “Tarun,” called again claiming that he was in the business of buying and selling old electronic appliances. He asked if she had more items for sale.
Patel then shared photos of an audio receiver/amplifier and a dishwasher with him. She quoted a total price of ₹40,000 for all the items. The man requested her bank account details to make the payment, and she shared them. He initially transferred ₹35,000 and assured her that the remaining ₹5,000 would be sent soon.
Shortly afterward, Patel received a message, and before she could read it, the man called again and claimed that he had mistakenly transferred ₹50,000 instead of ₹5,000. He requested that she return ₹45,000 to his account. Believing him, Patel transferred the amount from her and her husband’s bank accounts.
However, after this, the man began giving excuses and delaying the return of her money. Eventually, he stopped answering her calls altogether. Realizing she had been duped, Patel filed a complaint at the Worli Police Station. The matter is currently under investigation.
