Govt to launch month-long Van Mahotsav from July 3

The Delhi Government is set to launch “Van Mahotsav 2025” at Bharat Mandapam here on July 3. The month-long festival aims to boost Delhi’s green cover and nurture an emotional connect between citizens and nature.

The inaugural event will include ceremonial plantation by dignitaries, a “Van Mela” with over 50 stalls offering exotic and medicinal plants, eco-tools, biodegradable products and free sapling distribution.

“Van Mahotsav is not just a plantation drive — it’s a people’s festival of green resolve, a tribute to nature and a deeply emotional journey. We are transforming it into a mass movement in Delhi — involving every citizen, leader and community — because combating pollution requires collective climate consciousness,” said Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa, issuing a formal directive to the Forest Department.

Central to the campaign is the “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” initiative, encouraging citizens to plant a tree in their mother’s name. From July 1 to 31, daily plantation drives will take place across all constituencies, involving schools, RWAs, institutions and civic bodies. National awardees, industrialists, and media heads will also take part.

Special focus will be laid on public storytelling, tree tags bearing mothers’ names and social media outreach to turn the drive into a citywide movement. Local MLAs, MPs and councillors will oversee ward-level drives, coordinated by the Forest Department.

“We have pledged to plant more than 70 lakh trees across Delhi, and this Van Mahotsav marks a decisive step toward that promise — not just in numbers, but in nurturing a green conscience,” said Sirsa. The campaign is a core pillar of the Air Pollution Mitigation Plan 2025, spearheaded by CM Rekha Gupta.
