Thane Crime: Kalyan Police Arrest 3 Men With 120 Bottles Of Banned Codeine Syrup Worth ₹27,000 In Anti-Narcotics Drive
Thane: As part of a special drive to curb narcotics-related activities in the city, the Kalyan police have arrested three men for allegedly possessing 120 banned codeine-based cough syrup. Police recovered 120 bottles of codeine syrup, each containing 100 ml, valued at approximately ₹27,000.
Officers from Bazarpeth Police Station detained the suspects—Tausif Surve (34), a driver; Linkgaraj Allgud (40), and Irfan Ibrahim, both residents of Karnataka—on June 22.
The arrests took place during a police petrolling in Bakri Mandi Road in Kalyan where team observed the three men behaving suspiciously. Upon questioning and conducting a search, police discovered the bottles in their possession.
According to officials, the accused were taken to the police station, where an FIR was registered under relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. The suspects were later produced in court and remanded to police custody for further investigation.
Investigators are now working to trace the source of the codeine syrup and identify potential buyers. Police suspect the involvement of an interstate drug syndicate and believe that the arrests have dealt a significant blow to the illegal distribution network.
