Thane Municipal Corporation Demolishes 63 Illegal Structures In Citywide Crackdown, FIR Registered Under MRTP Act
Thane: The Encroachment Department of the Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) has initiated a special drive targeting unauthorized buildings and structures throughout the city. As part of this operation, a total of 63 illegal structures have been demolished so far, and one First Information Report (FIR) has been registered under the Maharashtra Regional and Town Planning (MRTP) Act.
Civic Teams Formed Under Commissioner Saurabh Rao’s Directive
According to civic officials, the special team was constituted by order of Municipal Commissioner Saurabh Rao and team includes Deputy Municipal Commissioners, Executive Engineers, ward officers, and other TMC staff.
Their primary mandate is to identify unauthorized structures and carry out demolition after evacuation, wherever necessary. The special teams were formed under the work of each Deputy Municipal Commissioner across nine wards to take action against these illegal structures.
30 Illegal Constructions Demolished in a Single Day
As part of the campaign, TMC has razed 30 unauthorized constructions on Monday in the Lokmanya Nagar–Savarkar Nagar area and other areas located in Thane and registered an FIR related to one of the structures under the MRTP Act.
Demolition Drive Follows High Court Order and Citywide Survey
Officials further stated that the demolition drive followed a directive issued by the High Court. In response, a survey was conducted across all wards to identify illegal constructions. The team has successfully demolished unoccupied buildings by removing illegal extensions, including columns and plinth-level structures.
Deputy Commissioner (Encroachment Department) Shankar Patole confirmed that ward-level action is ongoing. Demolition operations have been carried out in areas including Yeoor, Mumbra, Diva, Wagle Estate, Naupada, Uthalsar, and Majivda–Manpada.
Earlier Demolitions Bring Total Tally to 63 Structures
As part of the special drive, TMC had earlier demolished 33 unauthorized constructions. With the current round of demolitions, the total now stands at 63.
The operation was supported by machinery such as Poklen excavators, JCBs, gas cutters, tractor breakers, and dedicated manpower. Security was provided by local police and personnel from the Maharashtra Security Force.
