Architecture design workshop for faculty at Kurukshetra varsity

The department of architecture and planning at the National Institute of Technology, Kurukshetra, is conducting a five-day short-term course to educate and sensitise faculty members, architects and building professionals about fundamentals of building services and their integration in architectural design. The course started on Monday and will conclude on Friday.

“The department of architecture and planning is committed to imparting quality education to the aspirants. The short-term course is being organised to promote awareness of architectural design standards, safety and planning norms together with aspects of building services among building professionals and budding architects,” said Prof HK Sharma, coordinator of the department of architecture and planning.

The course is being organised in the hybrid mode offering learning opportunities to the aspirants of remote locations nationwide also, who had joined in the online mode.

“The knowledge of building services like fire protection, electrical services, water supply and sanitation, acoustics, lifts and escalators as well as heating ventilation is instrumental in developing the aptitude of architectural design thinking incorporating regulatory compliance for a safe built environment,” said Dr Jitendra Yadav and Dr Kanchan Garg, coordinators of the short-term course.

Dr Rajeev Garg, organising secretary of the national workshop, said, “the knowledge of fundamentals of building services is of paramount importance for designing efficient, functional and safe built environment. Understanding various building services ensures future architects design buildings considering comfort, convenience and safety aspect avoiding any conflict among services and reducing maintenance requirements in the buildings in future.”

While addressing the participants during the inaugural function, Prof RP Chauhan, Dean (Academic) NIT, Kurukshetra, emphasised the need of educating the young generation based on values than just the outcome based education with the aim of achieving excellence in their field.

More than 40 participants will be benefited by the short-term course through two ceremonials and 12 technical sessions, which are being conducted by the experts of various domains. Earlier this month, the Department of Architecture and Planning at the NIT, Kurukshetra, organised a one-week national workshop on the Architectural design aspects in national building code of India.
