Three pistols smuggled from Pakistan seized at Amritsar’s Gharinda, 2 held

The Gharinda police on Tuesday arrested two persons and confiscated three Glock pistols, allegedly smuggled from Pakistan.

Those arrested were Gursharan Singh, alias Guri, of Naushehra Dhallan in Tarn Taran and Amritpal Singh, alias Bai, of Basarke Gillan village here.

The police also seized a mobile phone and a bike from their possession.

Lakhwinder Singh, Deputy Superintendent of Police, Attari, said the accused were arrested from near a government school at Gharinda. They were travelling on a bike when intercepted by the police. The weapons were seized during frisking. They were produced in a court that remanded them in police custody.

The weapons were smuggled from the neighbouring country via drones, the police claimed.

Past several months have witnessed a spurt in the smuggling of sophisticated weapons, including Austria-made Glock pistols, Turkey-made Zigana pistols and PX5 pistols. In June alone, the Amritsar have seized over 50 sophisticated weapons.
