Passport Verification: Now passport application can be verified in just 12 days, this state’s police gets the honor

Bihar Police has received a “Certificate of Recognition” from the Ministry of External Affairs for verifying passport applications in the shortest time. Bihar Police verifies in an average of 12 days, with a target of reducing it to 10 days. Bihar ranks first among states with less than five lakh applications. Siwan district has received the highest number of applications, 63 thousand. Now chip-fitted passports are being issued.

Passport Verification: Bihar Police has received the ‘Certificate of Recognition’ award given by the Ministry of External Affairs to the best state police force for verifying passport applications in the shortest time in the country. Bihar Police IG Rakesh Rathi received this award from Minister of State for External Affairs Pabitra Margherita in New Delhi.

In a press conference held at the Police Headquarters on Tuesday, ADG of Special Branch Sunil Kumar said that Bihar has got the first place in the category of states with less than five lakh passport applications. Currently, Bihar Police is verifying passport applications in an average of 12 days. This average has been continuously decreasing for 18 days in the last five years.

The target has been set to bring it below ten minutes. Special instructions have been given to all the police stations to achieve this target soon. All the 1128 police stations of the state have also been given a special tab for passport verification.

Siwan tops in making passports, 63 thousand applications:

ADG Sunil Kumar said that in Bihar last year in 2024, a total of four lakh 38 thousand 994 applications were received for making passports. Of these, the highest number of 63 thousand have come from Siwan district. After this, Gopalganj is second with 52 thousand applications and Patna is third with 40 thousand applications.

A large number of applications also come in West and East Champaran. More than one DSP is being given the right of digital signature for quick execution of passport verification in these districts. The least number of passport applications have been received from Khagaria district. The average time of verification here is also only five days.

Now chip based passports are available:

The ADG said that chip based passports are being issued since last month May. All information from immigration to other information will be uploaded in this special chip.

He said that as per the central provision, Bihar Police is given a reimbursement of Rs. 150 per application for passport verification in less than 15 days. Last year, Rs. 19 crore 89 lakh was received in this head. He said that now a course related to passport verification will also be included in police training.
