Breaking News: Mallikarjun Kharge Alleges “Undeclared Emergency” Under Modi Government Since 2014 | ABP NEWS

Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge has launched a sharp attack on the BJP-led central government, alleging that India has been under an "undeclared emergency" for the past 11 years. Marking the anniversary of the 1975 Emergency, Kharge said that while that official Emergency has ended, a new kind has emerged since 2014 when Prime Minister Narendra Modi came to power. Kharge accused the Modi government of suppressing dissent, misusing public resources for private interests, and undermining democratic institutions. He said that by selling off public sector units and favoring a few corporate allies, the government has handed over national assets to friends. He also criticized the BJP’s narrative on the Constitution, stating that those who talk of saving the Constitution today have themselves forgotten its values. Referring to Indira Gandhi's constitutional amendments being later reversed with her support, Kharge argued that Congress accepted democratic corrections, while the Modi government hides its failures by attacking others. He further said that Modi’s recent efforts to project himself as a constitutional savior are mere “drama” aimed at suppressing genuine public sentiment and the momentum of Congress-led movements like the 'Save Constitution' campaign.
