Surat city in Gujarat faced waterlogging and school closures, many parts of Nashik in Maharashtra were submerged due to the overflowing of the Godavari river and coastal Kerala also received rain. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an alert warning of heavy rains in many parts of western, central, eastern and southern India in the next few days.
Heavy rain worsens situation in Surat
Continuous rain in Surat, Gujarat has led to severe waterlogging in various parts of the city. After which the authorities had to order the closure of schools. Roads turned into drains and low-lying areas were inundated. Due to this, normal life was badly affected.
Maharashtra also received heavy rains, with the Godavari river overflowing and many parts of Nashik flooded. Residents had difficulty wading through knee-deep water as rescue teams remained on high alert. In the south, many parts of Kerala received heavy rains, prompting local authorities to keep an eye on rain-related hazards.
IMD issued rain alert
Meanwhile, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a warning warning of intense rainfall activity in different parts of the country. According to the IMD, rainfall activity is likely to increase in northwest India from June 25. Heavy to very heavy rainfall may occur at some places. Heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely to continue in many parts of central, east and northeastern India during the next seven days. Extremely heavy rainfall is expected over Konkan, Madhya Maharashtra and Gujarat region on June 24.
According to meteorologists, extremely heavy rainfall of more than 20 cm in 24 hours is likely at isolated places over Konkan, Madhya Maharashtra and Gujarat region on June 24. Very heavy rainfall is likely at some places over Konkan and Goa, Madhya Maharashtra and Gujarat region during June 24 to 30. Heavy rainfall is likely at isolated places over Saurashtra and Kutch. During this period, light to moderate rainfall may occur at most or many places over Gujarat State, Konkan & Goa, Madhya Maharashtra and Marathwada.
Heavy rains for a week in North India
Talking about North India, heavy rains are likely at different places in Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Western Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan during June 24 to 30. While heavy rains may occur in Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit-Baltistan, Muzaffarabad during June 25 to 27. At the same time, there is a possibility of heavy rain in eastern UP during June 27 to 30.
During June 24 to 30, light to moderate rains, thunderstorms, lightning and strong winds at a speed of 30 to 40 km per hour are likely at most or many places in North-West India. Heavy rains may occur in Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha, Chhattisgarh, West Bengal and Sikkim during June 24 to 28.
Winds will blow at a speed of 40 to 60 kmph
The Meteorological Department said that light to moderate rainfall, thunderstorms, lightning and heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated places are likely to continue at many or most places in Northeast India during the next 7 days. Strong winds at a speed of 40 to 60 kmph are likely over Karnataka, coastal Andhra Pradesh, Yanam, Rayalaseema and Telangana during June 24 to 28.
Light to moderate rainfall is likely at many or some places over Kerala, Mahe, Lakshadweep and coastal Karnataka during the same period. In contrast, scattered rainfall with thunderstorms and lightning is likely at isolated places over coastal Andhra Pradesh, Yanam, Telangana and interior Karnataka.
