Multi-layered security in place for Amarnath Yatra, says Kashmir IGP
Jammu and Kashmir Police and the security agencies have made multi-layered and in-depth security arrangements for the successful conduct of the Amarnath Yatra which begins next month, the valley’s police chief said on Wednesday.
Inspector General of Police, Kashmir Zone, VK Birdi who visited south Kashmir to review the security arrangements for the upcoming yatra, said Jammu and Kashmir Police and other security forces have arranged complete security of the yatra.
“And as compared to last year, this time we have multi-layered and in-depth security arrangements so that we can make this yatra safe and comfortable for the pilgrims,” he said.
He said security arrangements of the yatra have been divided into different parts.
Birdi said on Wednesday that in each zone and sector of the yatra, a SOP drill is being carried out in the valley.
“The purpose of these drills is that whatever action we have and whatever action and response we have during contingency can be more efficient and can be more refined,” he said. “These types of drills are being carried out in all the places in the entire valley…whether it is camps, whether it is road sections or interior sections…so that all the security forces are aware of their task and what specific tasks they have to do so that they can handle any contingency situation well.”
To a question, the IGP said yatras are successful only with the help and support of locals. “So, this yatra, as we talk to the local people here, they are very enthusiastic so that the pilgrims come and they help them and provide them with all the facilities and services so that their yatra is also successful,” he said.
