Mumbai Cyber Fraud: 36-Year-Old Woman Duped Of ₹93,000 While Booking Flight Tickets

Mumbai: A 36-year-old woman from Malad was cheated of Rs 93,000 while trying to book flight tickets online for her husband and his six friends. The Malad Police have registered an FIR and are investigating the case.

The woman works at a restobar in Malad, while her husband works in Dubai. She usually books his flight tickets whenever he visits India or returns to Dubai, as reported by The Times Of India. According to the FIR, in November 2024, her husband and six of his friends had travelled to Thailand in search of jobs.

Unfortunately, they couldn’t find any work and decided to return to Mumbai on December 24. They tried booking tickets online themselves but faced issues. According to the report, her husband then called her from Thailand and asked her to book flight tickets for the group. Since she was busy at work on December 24, she searched for flight booking services through a telephone yellow pages.

Although no one answered her call initially, she received a callback shortly afterwards. The caller inquired about the number of tickets she needed and for which route. She told him she required seven flight tickets from Thailand to Mumbai. The caller explained the booking process and said the total cost would be Rs 1.9 lakh. He asked for Rs 93,000 as an advance to confirm the bookings.

The woman first tried to make the payment using a QR code provided by the caller, but it didn’t work. The caller then gave her another number, and she successfully transferred the money there. After that, the caller switched off his phone and could not be reached again, as reported. Realising she had been scammed, the woman approached the Malad Police, who have registered a case and are now investigating the fraud.
