The Indian ‘king’ of Burj Khalifa

Dubbed by the media as the ‘king’ of Burj Khalifa, George V Nereamparambil is an Indian-born businessman in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), whose rise from mediocrity to become the largest property owner in the world’s most opulent residential apartment building is a heartwarming rags to riches story of perseverance and hard work.

Who is George V Nereamparambil?

Born in a middle-income home in Kerala, George V Nereamparambil was just 11 when he began assisting his father in the trade and transport of cash crops. George was blessed with entrepreneurial nature since his early years, and essentially turned waste into cash, by starting a side-business of extracting gum from left over cotton seeds, and selling it to make some extra money.

In 1976, George travelled to Sharjah to search for better opportunities, and it was here that he stumbled upon the massive potential of the air conditioning industry because of the scorching desert heat that baked the Gulf city and its residents.

This one idea changed the course of George’s life as he established his own company, which has today evolved into the GEO Group of Companies, and made George V Nereamparambil a prominent name in the Middle East.

How George V Nereamparambil became ‘king’ of Burj Khalifa

The story of George V Nereamparambil being ‘crowned’ the ‘king’ of Burj Khalifa is rather interesting, stemming out of a challenge made by a relative, who once told him that he would never even be allowed inside the lavish building. Driven by the challenge, George started by renting a flat in the Burj Khalifa, and over the years, ended up owning a staggering 22 luxury units, out of the 900, in the iconic structure.
