Tamil actor Krishna and his associate have been arrested by the Chennai police on Thursday. Krishna was picked up from Kerala and brought to Chennai for enquiry along with his associate in connection with a drug case. He was arrested after the police investigated his phone and discovered WhatsApp chats between the drug network, which allegedly indicated his connection with them.
Krishna is the second actor to be arrested after actor Srikanth alias Sridhar Krishnamachari. Srikanth was arrested on June 23, following the seizure of cocaine from his place. Krishna, sources say, was picked up on the information from Srikanth.
It all began after two groups clashed in a nightclub brawl at Nungambakkam, one of the swanky localities in Chennai. The brawl led to violent attacks following which one of the group members was injured and got admitted to a private hospital. The next day the fight continued at the hospital premises where the injured were getting treated, leading them to the police station. During a month-long investigation the Chennai city police and the Narcotics Intelligence Unit found that a former AIADMK IT wing functionary S. Prasad was running the drug network and the entire group was involved in job scams, land grab and supplying cocaine to Tamil film actors.
The Chennai city police arrested Prasad and Srikanth later. With the arrest of Krishna, according to sources, the case is likely to lead to several high profile names in Kollywood. Police sources say Prasad was sourcing cocaine from neighbouring states and was supplying it to actors for the past three years.
Apart from Krishna the police have also arrested Jesvir alias Kevin and have seized 0.5 grams of cocaine, 10.30 grams of methamphetamine, 2.75 grams of MDMA, 2.40 grams of OG ganja, 30 grams of regular ganja, ziplock covers, weighing machines, Rs. 45,200 in cash and gadgets from him. Kevin, according to police, was the regular supplier of Cocaine and other drugs to actor Krishna. Kevin, who also used to abuse drugs is suspected to have supplied to many others in the film industry.
“We may not be able to reveal anything more. This is an ongoing investigation,” a senior police officer told THE WEEK. The police had arrested Kevin, based on his bank transactions and his interactions with the actors via WhatsApp. Kevin was also part of a drug users whatsapp group which was into drug trading.
