Leh DC convenes meeting on flash flood preparations

In view of the high likelihood of flash floods during the ongoing season, Deputy Commissioner Leh Romil Singh Donk convened a high-level meeting to review disaster preparedness and emergency response protocols.

During the meeting, the Leh DC directed all Sub-Divisional Magistrates to identify flash flood hotspot zones in their respective jurisdictions and submit detailed reports, including the exact longitude and latitude coordinates of helipads. He also reviewed the preparedness of the medical section, during which the Chief Medical Officer assured that Rapid Response Teams (RRTs) are active in every block and that all toll-free emergency numbers are fully functional.

In addition, the DC reviewed the status of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF).

He was briefed on their current manpower availability and equipment inventory to assess their operational readiness in case of any emergency situation. He also instructed all SDMs to conduct awareness meetings with Nambardars and to review the status of Incident Response Teams (IRTs) to ensure their preparedness and effectiveness.

The meeting concluded with a strong message of urgency, preparedness and collective responsibility in managing potential flash flood risks in Leh district. The DC also stressed that all departments must remain on high alert and keep their safety measures and response equipment in a state of immediate readiness.

The meeting was attended by key officials including Senior Superintendent of Police, Leh; Superintending Engineer PW(R&B), Leh; Commandant, NDRF 13 Bn; Chief Medical Officer, Leh; Deputy Superintendent of Police, UTDRF, Ladakh; Executive Engineer, I&FC, Leh; Executive Officer, MC Leh; and the Nodal Officer, Air Maintenance, Leh. All Sub-Divisional Magistrates and Tehsildars of the district joined the meeting through video conferencing.
