GNDU inks pact with Uzbekistan varsity

Guru Nanak Dev University (GNDU) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Samarkand State University, Uzbekistan, marking a significant step towards strengthening international academic and research collaboration. The MoU, signed between Prof KS Chahal, GNDU Registrar; and Prof Dr Rustam Khalmuradov of Samarkand State University; outlines a multi-faceted framework for cooperation in the fields of education, research, training and student exchange.

The partnership aims to foster global learning experiences and cross-cultural understanding through joint initiatives and mobility programmes. The MoU was signed today as delegates from both universities attended an online meet. From Samarkand State University, the Rector Khalmuradov Rustam Ibrogimovich; Vice-Rector, Soleer Ahmadjoy; Vice-Rector International Co-operation, A Khatov Akmel Rustamovich; and Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs, Umudullaev Shukhrat Vdaydullaeivich; were present. Vice-Chancellor Prof Karamjeet Singh; Dr Palwinder Singh, Dean Academic Affairs; Prof KS Chahal, Registrar; Dr HS Saini, Dean students welfare; Dr Preet Mohinher Singh Bedi, Director of the Global Ranking and Collaboration Cell; and Dr Vandana Bhalla, Director of Research; represented GNDU .

GNDU Vice-Chancellor said as part of the agreement, both institutions will facilitate exchange programmes for faculty and students at undergraduate, postgraduate, doctoral and post-doctoral levels. “The MoU also encourages the joint organisation of seminars, workshops and conferences on topics of mutual interest, as well as the development of collaborative research proposals and training modules funded by international agencies. It also facilitates the student exchange programmes, which will allow participants to earn academic credits during their stay, with transcripts jointly authenticated by both institutions. Faculty mobility, limited to one academic semester, will enable visiting scholars to engage in teaching, research, and joint academic activities,” he said.

The administration and coordination of the collaborative activities will be overseen by the Centre for Global Ranking and International Collaboration Cell at GNDU and the International Cooperation Department at Samarkand State University.

Prof Karamjeet Singh emphasised that such partnerships are key to GNDU’s vision of promoting internationalisation in higher education. “This collaboration will not only open up new avenues for our students and researchers but also contribute to the global academic community through knowledge exchange and innovation,” he said.

The MoU is initially valid for five years and may be renewed upon mutual agreement. It also includes provisions for securing joint funding, adherence to international research ethics, and sharing of academic resources.
