Who Is Lauren Sanchez?

Sanchez is a third-generation Mexican-American and was born in New Mexico in 1969 and raised in California. In 2017, she told The Hollywood Reporter that she didn’t have much growing up.

When Lauren grew up, she applied for the air attendant job but was rejected due to her weight. “back then, they weighed you, and I weighed 121 pounds. They said, ‘You need to be 115’, Sanchez told The Wall Street Journal during an interview.

After getting rejected from an air attendant job, she studied journalism at the University of Southern California. In the year 1994, she started to pursue a career in broadcast journalism.

Journalism Career

Sanchez worked in several local news outlets. She later got jobs as a reporter and anchor at major news outlets such as – Fox Sports Net, Extra, and Good Day LA. Lauren was a famous face on TV in the late 1990s. She was nominated for an Emmy award for her show on Fox Sports Net – Going Deep. In the year 1999, she won the Emmy Award as the anchor on KCOP-TV’s UPN News 13.

Sanchez held various positions at KTTV Fox 11, including co-host of Good Day LA and anchor for the Fox 11 News at Ten. He also notably served as the original host of So You Think You Can Dance. In 2003, he was featured on the cover of Open Your Eyes magazine, described as “America’s hottest news anchor.”

Helicopter Pilot

When Lauren was 40 years old, she became a licensed helicopter pilot, inspired by her father, who was a flight instructor. In the year 2016, Sanchez launched Black Ops Aviation and became the first woman in America to own an aerial film production company.

Earlier this year, Sanchez participated in a Blue Origin New Shepard suborbital spaceflight with Gayle King and Katy Perry. This ten-minute mission, funded by Jeff Bezos, profoundly impacted her.
