Kolkata college girl rape: All three arrested, forensic team to visit Kasba today

Three people were arrested for the alleged gangrape of a college student in Kolkata's Kasba area. According to local media reports, the crime took place on the night of Wednesday, June 25. The accused include two students and a college staffer.

 

The survivor underwent a medical examination at the Calcutta National Medical College and Hospital after filing a formal complaint. She was kept against her will at the college premises at least until 11 PM after being sexually assaulted, reports said.

 

The arrests were made by the Kolkata Police on Thursday night. Two of the accused were reportedly picked up from the Talbagan area after the complaint was filed. During police questioning, the name of the third accused came to light, and he was also apprehended by midnight, The Telegraph reported. The police are yet to release the details of the trio.

 

"The student lodged a complaint with the Kasba Police Station, and the three accused were held on Thursday. As of now, the matter is at an initial stage," the officer said.

 

The girl was sexually assaulted after 7:50 PM, the police reportedly told the press. The college staffer who was arrested in connection with the case was a former student of the same college, Bengali media reports said.

 

The investigation team is expected to accompany a forensic team to the crime scene later in the day, the daily added. The area has been cordoned off and police personnel have been deployed.
