Ahmedabad Jagannath Rath yatra 2025 News: The 148th Rath Yatra of Lord Jagannath started in Ahmedabad, Gujarat on Friday (27 June) morning. Thousands of devotees gathered to see the Lord in it. Meanwhile, an elephant went out of control during the Rath Yatra. Due to this, there was an atmosphere of panic among the devotees. However, after some time the forest department officials controlled the elephant. During this, there was a stampede in the Rath Yatra for some time. Devotees started running here and there. A group of 18 elephants was leading the Rath Yatra. One of the elephants suddenly went out of control.
At present, there is no news of anyone being seriously injured. The chariots of Lord Jagannath, his elder brother Balabhadra and sister Subhadra were taken out of the Jagannath temple located in the Jamalpur area of the city by the Khalasi community as per the centuries-old tradition. The grand procession of three chariots started from the 400-year-old temple and is expected to return by 8 pm via the old city. The areas through which this yatra will pass include some communally sensitive areas.
Amit Shah performed Puja-Archana
Union Home Minister Amit Shah and his family members attended the morning prayers at the Jagannath temple. While Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel performed the ‘Pahind Vidhi’, a traditional ritual of symbolic cleaning of roads with a gold broom. The procession usually involves 18 elephants, 100 trucks, ‘bhaan-mandalis’ (devotional groups) and 30 akhadas (locals).
The procession will cover a distance of 16 km today. Many trucks have been decorated as tableaux on different themes. Lakhs of devotees are expected to gather on both sides of the route to have darshan of Lord Jagannath and his siblings throughout the day. Police officials said they have made elaborate security arrangements for the procession.
Tight security arrangements
Around 23,800 security personnel have been deployed in the city to secure the annual Rath Yatra. 14-15 lakh people are expected to attend the Rath Yatra. According to a government release, for the first time, an AI-based surveillance system will be used to prevent situations like stampede.
It states that the AI-based system will inform the police and fire department in case of a fire. Apart from this, it will also inform the police control room if too many people gather in a particular area.
Officials said that around 4,500 security personnel will accompany the procession on the entire 16 km route. While 1,931 personnel will be deployed for traffic management. Many roads will remain closed for normal traffic. Senior police officers will monitor the Rath Yatra using 2,872 body-worn cameras connected to the control room, 41 drones and 96 cameras installed at various places and 25 surveillance towers.
