With Democratic Socialist Zohran Mamdani claiming victory against former New York Governor Andrew Cuomo in the party's NYC mayoral primary, Republicans have raised questions about his American citizenship. Some of the GOP leaders have gone to the extent of demanding his deportation.

Tennessee GOP Rep Andy Ogles went on to call Mamdani "little Muhammad" as he sought his deportation. “He needs to be DEPORTED," Ogles wrote on X, “Which is why I am calling for him to be subject to denaturalisation proceedings."

Ogles also wrote a letter to Attorney General Pam Bondi, seeking a probe by the Justice Department into the legality of Mamdani's citizenship. He cited a 2017 song, wherein Mamdani gave a shoutout to the "Holy Land Five", referring to the founders of the banned Muslim charity convicted of funding Hamas.

“Publicly praising the Foundation’s convicted leadership as ‘my guys’ raises serious concerns about whether Mr. Mamdani held affiliations or sympathies he failed to disclose during the naturalisation process," Ogles said in the letter sent ot the AG.

The New York Young Republican Club (NYYRC) urged White House Deputy Chief of Staff Stephen Miller and US President Donald Trump's border czar Tom Homan that "the radical Zohran Mamdani cannot be allowed to destroy our beloved city of New York." They added that President Trump can revoke Mamdani's citizenship under Communist Control Act and deport him.

This comes as Homan slammed Mamdani over his election promise to expel Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officials from New York City, saying the federal government will speed up the deportations in "sanctuary cities" like NYC.

"It's game on," Homan told Fox News a day after Mamdani's Democratic primary win. The final results of the primary is expected to be out on July 1.

Comparing the situation in Republican strongholds, Homan said they do not have such problems in Florida, where he said the sheriffs are cooperative. "So we’re going to double up and triple up on New York," he said. "Not only are we going to send more agents to the neighborhood, we are going to increase worksite enforcement tenfold."
