Briefs: Sub-Inspector arrested in bribery case

Fazilka: The Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB) has arrested Sub-Inspector (SI) Ravipal, posted at the Amir Khas police station in Fazilka district for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 8,000. The arrest was made following a complaint by a resident of Guruhar Sahai. He had alleged that the SI was demanding Rs 10,000 bribe for drafting and submitting a reply in connection with a writ petition in the HC.

21 children rescued during anti-begging campaign

Bathinda: Under the anti-begging campaign, 21 children were rescued during checks conducted at various locations in Bathinda on Friday. District Programme Officer Pankaj Kumar said 16 of the rescued children were sent to the child care institute while five were handed over to their parents.

Nine MGNREGA employees suspended in Muktsar

Muktsar: Deputy Commissioner Abhijeet Kaplish has suspended nine employees, including Malout APO Sukhdev Singh, for alleged negligence in duty and poor performance under the MGNREGA scheme. Other suspended employees were technical assistants Ajay Sharma, Nishat Watts and Ramandeep Kaur, and gram rozgar sewaks Shamsher Singh, Gurbinder Singh, Gurpreet Singh, Harvinder Singh and Sukhmander Singh.
