Who was Shefali Jariwala? ‘Bigg Boss’ 13 fame passes away at age 42

Shefali Jariwala, best known for her stint in Bigg Boss 13 and her appearance in the iconic music video Kaanta Laga, passed away on Friday. While an official cause of death has not been confirmed, reports indicate it to be a suspected cardiac arrest. She was 42.

A Mumbai police official told ANI, “Her body was found at her residence in Andheri area. Mumbai Police received information about this at 1 am. Her body has been sent to Cooper Hospital for postmortem.

According to reports, she was rushed to Bellevue Multi-speciality Hospital by her husband Parag Tyagi on Friday night, where she was pronounced dead. Mumbai police and a forensics team arrived at the couple’s home in the wee hours of Saturday morning.

Who was Shefali Jariwala?

Born on December 15, 1982, to Satish and Sunita Jariwala, Shefali gained instant fame in 2002 after featuring in DJ Doll’s Kaanta Laga. She later went on to be a contestant in multiple reality dance shows, including Boogie Woogie, Nach Baliye 5 and 7.

Cloaked behind the fame of Bollywood, the model was academically accomplished. She received a Bachelors' degree in Computer Applications from Gujarat’s Sardar Patel Engineering College.

Shefali was married to musician Harmeet Singh from Meet Brothers in 2004. After a tumultuous relationship that ended with charges being pressed against Singh, the couple split in 2009.

Shefali reportedly met Parag Tyagi in 2010. The pair later participated in the fifth season of the dance competition reality show Nach Baliye in 2013. Their friendship blossomed into love resulting in them tying the knot in 2014. After their marriage, they returned as contestants to Nach Baliye for the seventh season, losing out on the title yet again.

She also acted in film, with a supporting role in Mujhse Shaadi Karogi starring Salman Khan, Akshay Kumar and Priyanka Chopra. She also appeared in the Kannada film Hudugaru, alongside Puneeth Rajkumar.

In a past interview with The Times of India, Shefali revealed that she was diagnosed with epilepsy when she was 15. "I had an epilepsy seizure at the age of 15. I remember at that time I was under tremendous pressure to do well in my studies. Stress and anxiety can lead to seizures. It's interrelated; you could get a seizure due to depression and vice versa," she said.

She mentioned that her professional career took a hit as she could not predict when her next epileptic seizure would come. Despite the shortcomings, Shefali noted that she overcame the condition with a strong support system. "I am proud of myself because I managed my depression, panic attacks and anxiety naturally and with the help of a strong support system," she shared.
