Swetcha Votarkar

Telugu TV news anchor Swetcha Votarkar was found dead in her residence at Chikkadpally area of Hyderabad on Friday.

Police suspect it to be a case of suicide and have launched an investigation.

"We have received information that a woman named Swetcha, has committed suicide. We are investigating the matter. Further details will be provided later," ACP, Chikkadpally said in a statement.

Swetcha, 35, was living with her mother and school-going daughter.

According to reports, the incident came to light after Swetcha’s daughter returned home from school in the evening. After her repeated knock on the bedroom door went unanswered, the girl alerted the neighbours who then forced open the door and found Swetcha lying unconscious inside, reported The News Minute.

An ambulance was called, but the paramedics confirmed her death, the report said. Her body has been shifted to the Gandhi Hospital for post-mortem.

Swetcha’s father Shankar said she had been living with her partner for the last four years. But their relationship went sour in the last couple of years and the emotional strain might have led her to die by suicide, he said.

BRS working president K.T. Rama Rao offered his condolences on the demise of the news anchor.
