Weddings are a very big deal in India. No matter the religion, getting married is seen as one of the most important moments in a person’s life. People spend a lot on weddings, based on how much they can afford. The more money someone has, the bigger and more lavish the wedding usually is. One such grand wedding took place in Delhi in 2011. While the exact amount spent is not confirmed, news reports say the total cost may have been anywhere between Rs. 200 crore and Rs. 500 crore. It is not unusual in India for wealthy business families or politicians to go all out when their children get married, and that is exactly what happened here.
The wedding had things that most people can only dream of. The most talked-about moment was when the bride’s family gave the groom a Bell 429 helicopter as a gift. This five-seater chopper cost around Rs. 33 crore back in 2011.
When asked about it, the groom, Tanwar, confirmed the news and simply said, “Yes, a Bell 429 helicopter was given, but it was just a simple wedding.”
A wedding to remember: Lalit Tanwar and Yogita Jaunapuria’s grand celebration
In 2011, Lalit Tanwar and Yogita Jaunapuria got married in a grand wedding held at their family farmhouse near Delhi. The event was massive, with over 30,000 people attending, including around 1,000 staff and workers who helped manage the function. Later, the couple also threw a luxury reception party at a 5-star hotel in Delhi.
Many well-known people came to bless the couple, including then Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, top politicians, and Bollywood stars.
A feast like no other
The wedding had more than 100 types of food served to the guests. Inside the venue, 12 large TV screens were set up so that everyone could watch the wedding ceremony clearly. The 3-kilometer road leading to the venue was beautifully decorated with flowers and lights. Actor Neha Dhupia even performed at the event.
Lavish gifts for the guests
This wedding was not only about luxury, it was also about generosity. About 3,000 guests came to the main wedding, and 2,000 people were invited to the pre-wedding celebration held a week earlier. Every guest reportedly received a silver biscuit, a safari suit, and Rs. 40,000 in cash as a return gift.
Who are the bride and groom?
Lalit Tanwar is the son of BJP leader Kanwar Singh Tanwar. His wife, Yogita Jaunapuria, is the daughter of former Sohna MLA Sukhbir Singh Jaunapuria. Lalit Tanwar is now active in politics himself and currently serves as the District Panchayat President in Amroha.
This wedding is still remembered as one of the most extravagant and high-profile weddings in the country.
