Post Office Digital Payment: The Government of India is now going to give another strong direction to the Digital India Mission. The Department of Posts (India Post) has announced the implementation of digital payment in post offices across the country from August 2025. That is, now payments can be made in the post office through UPI, QR code and online transactions. Till now millions of post offices in the country were deprived of digital payment system, because their bank accounts were not linked to the Unified Payment Interface (UPI). But now this situation is going to change.

Why was digital payment not possible till now?

Post offices did not have the technical facilities to connect their customer interface with digital payments. That is, when a person purchased any service or product from the post office, he could pay only by cash or card. The option of making payment through UPI or scanning was not available.

However, earlier the post office had tried to install static QR codes at the sales centers, but it had to be stopped due to technical problems and customer complaints.

What will change now?

According to government sources, a new digital system has been developed under the ‘IT 2.0’ project, which supports QR code based payments. This system will now be implemented across the country from August 2025.

Its trial run has been done in the Karnataka circle. The facility of payment through QR code was successfully provided during mail booking in the post offices of Mysore and Bagalkot.

People will get this benefit

Now you will be able to make payment by scanning UPI while taking service from the post office

The hassle of cash transactions will end

Payment will be confirmed immediately, receipts will be given

Services available in post offices will become even faster and reliable

Post offices are among the oldest and deepest networks in India. With more than 1.5 lakh post offices becoming digital, the reach of digital payment system will increase further in rural India. This step will not only increase the convenience of the customers, but will also strengthen the government’s goal of a cashless economy.
