After being trolled for supporting Majithia, Charanjit Singh Channi tries to clear stand

Being trolled for the last two days for supporting Bikram Majithia over his arrest by the Vigilance Bureau, Jalandhar LS MP and former Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi made it clear that he was committed to fight drug abuse.

Channi on Saturday said, “I had no clue till today that I was being targeted on social media for supporting Majithia. My support to him is limited only to the manner he was arrested and the attempt of the government to muzzle his voice. I am in no way supporting any drug trade in Punjab. My statement has been twisted against me".

Not just the Aam Aadmi Party leaders, even some Congress leaders, including ex-PYC chief Brinder Dhillon had taken a jibe at Channi and others for supporting Majithia. This prompted him to clear his stand to the public once again.

In his video message, Channi said, “Ahead of my appointment as the Punjab CM in 2011, I had opened a jihad against Capt Amarinder Singh for not being able to end the drug menace and book those behind the sacrilege incidents. It was during my tenure that the then Punjab DGP booked Majithia. I faced a lot of opposition for taking this step. On the contrary, the AAP leaders had then apologised to Majithia. Now the same AAP leaders have deployed a team to troll me."

Channi hit out against AAP leaders, “When people showed faith in AAP and brought them to power, they did not carry forward the case against Majithia. They did not seek his remand even for a day. They held no interrogation. Now that they felt that Majithia was unravelling their secret agenda, they decided to nail him. It was this stance of the government that I have opposed. Even in the new FIR, there is no mention of use of drug money. It is a disproportionate assets case. So, how am I opposing any drug campaign?"
