Akhilesh Yadav slams BJP, says traders facing “economic-social emergency” due to flawed policies
LUCKNOW, June 29: Samajwadi Party (SP) president and former Uttar Pradesh chief minister Akhilesh Yadav on Sunday took a swipe at the ruling BJP, saying traders are facing an “economic-social emergency” due to flawed policies and a complicated tax system.
He said all the “engines” of the double engine government are busy arranging “fuel” instead of governance.
Addressing a meeting of the party’s Vyapar Sabha, Yadav said, “This government that calls itself the ‘double engine government’ is only for namesake. In reality if you look at their way of working, you can clearly see that its engines are busy arranging fuel.”
He said the government’s claims of simplifying taxes like GST have not helped businesses and instead created more hurdles.
Yadav cited media reports to claim that 35,000 Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) have shut down in the last year, and added that SP will ensure safety, respect, and convenience for traders if voted to power in 2027.
He claimed that business associates have also resolved to work with full responsibility, supporting the Samajwadi Party’s election campaign from their respective places.
The SP leader also paid tribute to Bhama Shah and recalled his contributions to society and support to Maharana Pratap during the Battle of Haldighati.
SP Vyapar Sabha state president Pradeep Jaiswal assured Yadav of full support from the trader community.
A day earlier, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath had reiterated his Government’s commitment to the safety and respect of traders and daughters at an event marking Bhamashah Jayanti and Vyapari Kalyan Diwas. (PTI)
