Andre Onana market price: Chelsea to challenge Manchester United as Emiliano Martinez transfer race heats up

If Manchester United decide to sell their first-choice goalkeeper Andre Onana this summer, the asking price for the Cameroon international will be £35 million, reports said.
The former Inter Milan shot-stopper, who is known for his on-the-ball skills and distribution, has been inconsistent for United between the sticks. He arrived at Old Trafford in July 2023 on a five-year deal for £43.2 million. The contract includes an option to extend his stay for another year, but Onana's up-and-down form has brought his future at the club into doubt.

Ruben Amorim’s team is linked to two goalkeepers this summer — Aston Villa's Emiliano Martinez and Botafogo's John Victor. World Cup winner "Dibu" Martínez is being let go by Aston Villa to avoid breaching the Premier League's Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR). United were heavily linked with the 32-year-old former Arsenal player before an excellent FIFA Club World Cup campaign reignited the club's interest in 29-year-old Brazilian John Victor. The 6ft 5in Victor is mentally prepared for a European move and has already informed his current club that he will leave if a good offer comes his way. It is unlikely that Victor's asking price will be higher than that of his fellow South American with a more stellar profile.
While Manchester United are believed to be in the process of analysing whether Onana needs to be replaced on priority, Chelsea have emerged as a potential rival for Martinez’s signature. The London club are financially well-off, unlike United, and are desperate to replace their underperforming shot-stoppers Robert Sanchez and Filip Jorgensen. Fans are particularly tired of Sanchez’s sub-par performances and are demanding a better goalkeeper, especially as the club has secured a return to European football.
How much money will Emiliano Martinez cost Manchester United?
Aston Villa want £45 million for Emiliano Martinez — a sum that could help balance their books, according to SportBible. While it is a significant amount for United to raise without first selling Onana or someone else like Marcus Rashford or Rasmus Hojlund, Chelsea should be able to pay without much resistance. Argentina’s World Cup-winning goalkeeper will also get to play European football if he decides to join Chelsea instead of United, who finished 15th last season.

Manchester United are in the middle of a squad overhaul — having brought in Matheus Cunha from Wolverhampton and aggressively tracking Brentford's Bryan Mbeumo. Apart from Rashford, Hojlund and Onana, Alejandro Garnacho, Mason Mount, and Antony are all up for sale if the Red Devils find suitors for the highly paid players.
