26 pc surplus rain in Punjab in June

SBS Nagar was the wettest district in Punjab, with 42.1 mm of rainfall during the past 24 hours, followed by Ropar 41.9 mm, SAS Nagar 36.4 mm and Ferozepur 36.3 mm, according to the data compiled by the India Meteorological Department (IMD).

Some areas in north-west Punjab, including Amritsar, Gurdaspur and Tarn Taran districts and the central part of the Malwa region including Faridkot Muktsar Bathinda and Mansa, however, remained dry.

In the month of June so far, rainfall in the state has been surplus by 26 per cent. From June 1 till the morning of June 26, the state received 62.8 mm rain compared to the long period average of 49.7 mm for this period, the IMD data shows.

Day temperatures recorded in Punjab were in the range of 40.8 degrees Celsius in Bathinda to 28.6 degrees Celsius in Ballowal Saunkhri, which were below normal at some places by up to 6.3 degrees Celsius. The minimum temperatures across the state were near normal.
