SRINAGAR, June 29: Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) President Tariq Hameed Karra today said that the Congress party will continue to intensify its campaign for the restoration of Statehood to Jammu and Kashmir and is committed to taking the struggle to its logical conclusion.
Speaking to reporters in Baramulla, Karra said the Indian National Congress (INC) has launched a structured programme under the banner “Our State, Our Right” in both the Jammu and Kashmir regions, demanding the return of full Statehood.
“In the Jammu region, the programme has already reached every district. In the Kashmir region, we began from Kulgam yesterday and aim to cover all districts by July 9,” he said.
Karra added that Congress workers are showing immense enthusiasm and are fully prepared to take the campaign to every corner of the Union Territory. “Our workers are determined and energized. It is clear they are ready to take this struggle forward,” he said.
He criticized the BJP-led Central Government for the abrogation of Article 370 in August 2019, calling the move “unilateral” and “unconstitutional.”

“Article 370 was not just a constitutional provision-it symbolized the aspirations and emotions of the people. Its abrogation deeply hurt the people of Jammu and Kashmir,” Karra said.
He accused the BJP of reducing the people of the region to second-class citizens. “After the revocation of Article 370, the people felt sidelined. That is why we launched this campaign-to restore dignity, rights and identity,” he said.
Commenting on the ongoing Amarnath Yatra, Karra said the pilgrimage has always been supported by the local population. “The Yatra is not new. It has been conducted for decades with the help of locals, particularly Kashmiri Muslims. There may have been isolated attacks on the route in the past, but never on the Yatris themselves. Everyone in India knows the Yatra succeeds because of local support,” he noted.
Karra said the Congress will step up its efforts in the coming days to mobilize public support and mount pressure on the Centre for the restoration of Jammu and Kashmir’s full Statehood.
