Uttarakhand government is preparing a list of pregnant women whose delivery is due in September to ensure that they can be properly cared for given the inclement weather in the state.
A database of such expectant mothers from all districts will be created and updated regularly. Proper arrangements will be made to take them to hospitals before delivery and to ensure their regular checkups.
The Indian Meteorological Department has put the entire state under red alert for Monday. Light thunderstorms are also predicted in the next 24 hours.
Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has directed that adequate availability of JCB and other necessary equipment should be ensured at sensitive places. In areas where rivers, drains, and streams can change their path, channelization and other such steps should be taken to ensure the safety of people.
In view of the heavy rainfall in the state, the Char Dham Yatra has been suspended for 24 hours. The CM has instructed that devotees should be housed safely and provided adequate food and medicine.
On Sunday, Dhami visited the State Emergency Operations Centre and took stock of the weather situation.
Officials have been instructed to be on alert mode for 24 hours for the next two months. The district magistrates have been directed to send people living near rivers and streams and at disaster-prone sites to safe places.
CM Dhami also ordered to ensure that people in areas where construction work is going on are shifted to safer places.
Meanwhile, the search and rescue operations for the missing labourers due to the cloudburst in the Barkot area of Uttarkashi tehsil are ongoing. Out of 29 labourers, 20 have been rescued safely. The search operation is being jointly conducted by the national and state disaster rescue forces. Two bodies have been recovered so far.
