Who is Lieutenant General DS Rana, the 23rd Colonel of the Regiment of Garhwal Rifles

Lieutenant General Dinesh Singh Rana, Commander-in-Chief of Andaman and Nicobar Command (CINCAN), has taken over as the 23rd Colonel of the Regiment of Garhwal Rifles. He succeeds Vice Chief of the Army Staff Lieutenant General N.S. Raja Subramani.
Lt Gen D.S. Rana, an accomplished leader and decorated officer, brings a wealth of operational experience and strategic acumen, the defence ministry said, adding, " As he assumes the mantle of the 23rd Colonel of the Regiment, he reaffirmed his commitment to furthering the ethos, discipline, and martial legacy of the Veer Garhwali warriors who have always stood steadfast in service of the nation."
Prior to his appointment as CINCAN, Lt Gen Rana was the Director General of the Defence Intelligence Agency. Lt Gen Rana held various operational, instructional, and staff appointments across various terrains and theatres in a career spanning nearly 40 years.

He commanded an Infantry Brigade and Division in the Eastern Sector and later led the Gajraj Corps along the Line of Actual Control. His other appointments include Brigade Major of an Independent Armoured Brigade, Deputy Director General Staff Duties, Brigadier Military Intelligence (East), Provost Marshal, and Director General Staff Duties at Integrated Headquarters, Ministry of Defence (Army).
He was commissioned into the 10th Battalion of The Garhwal Rifles on December 19, 1987. Lt Gen Rana completed his graduation from National Defence Academy, Khadakwasla and post-graduation from Defence Services Staff College, Wellington.
The ceremonial handing over of the Baton took place at the Garhwal Rifles Regimental Centre in Lansdowne, Uttarakhand.
As part of the proceedings, Lt Gen DS Rana received the Guard of Honour and paid homage at the War Memorial, honouring the supreme sacrifice of the bravehearts of the regiment.
