Liverpool is eyeing a move for Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi in a potential swap deal, according to reports. Arne Slot's team expects to negotiate a significant reduction in the asking price for the English international as the centre-back enters the final year of his contract at Selhurst Park.

It is 19-year-old attacker Ben Doak whom Liverpool are reportedly including in the offer to bring Guehi on board. Doak spent last season on loan with Championship side Middlesbrough, scoring three goals in 24 appearances. The Reds brought him from Celtic in 2022, paying compensation of around £600,000 considering his age and other parameters, SportBible reported. The Premier League champions value the Scottish international at around £25 million and expect Palace to reduce their asking price for Guehi by accepting a swap deal.

Manchester United and Newcastle United are also interested in the right-footed centre-back. In fact, the Magpies made a £70 million bid last summer, only to be turned down by Palace, who went on to win the FA Cup earlier this year. However, 24-year-old Guehi's current deal expires in June 2026, and this summer transfer window is the club's best chance to secure a significant fee. It is highly unlikely that Guehi will sign a new deal, and rejecting offers now could risk losing him as a free agent next June—something Palace would prefer to avoid.

Solid negotiations are yet to take place between the two clubs, but reports suggest that Guehi is likely to cost Liverpool over £30 million, even with Doak included in the agreement.

Liverpool have already broken the bank for Florian Wirtz and Jeremie Frimpong and may not be willing to spend more in their search for a long-term partner for Ibrahima Konate. With Virgil van Dijk possibly having only a couple of years left at the top level and Joe Gomez's recurring fitness issues, concerns are mounting. Guehi is a highly-rated centre-back and could fit well into Arne Slot’s system as the Premier League champions prepare for a tough title defense.
