Death toll in rain related incidents rises to 45 in Pakistan

ISLAMABAD, June 30: Another seven people were killed in the past 24 hours in rain related incidents in Pakistan, bringing the death toll to 45, according to official data released on Monday.
The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) in its latest update said seven more people died, including four in Balochistan, two in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, and one in Punjab.
It said 68 people have been injured since the pre-monsoon spell of rains began on June 26.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province in northwest Pakistan was the worst hit with 21 casualties, according to the NDMA website.
It said another 13 people were killed in Punjab, seven in Sindh, and four died in Balochistan province.
At least 39 people have been injured in Punjab, 16 in Sindh, 11 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and two in Balochistan, it said.
As many as 50 houses have been fully damaged and 39 partially damaged while 55 animals killed as rains wreak havoc in different parts of the country.
The NDMA said roads and bridges were also damaged due to rains.
The monsoon weather system annually brings rains in the vast Indian sub-continent region, including Pakistan.
Rain triggered floods in 2022 inundated a third of Pakistan, leaving 1,737 people dead and causing widespread destruction across the country. (PTI)
