Xi Jinping did not make any public appearance for many days, does it hint at…, may create trouble for India due to…

New Delhi: There is an intense speculation about the internal political adjustments at the highest levels of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) as Chinese President Xi Jinping did not make any public appearance between May 21 and June 5 this year.

Where is Xi Jinping?

According to top intelligence sources, Xi Jinping’s absence is not unusual, and China has a history of sidelining prominent leaders, reports CNN-News18.

The CCP sidelines its own leaders to weaken their operational influence without formal removal including downgrading once-prominent figures to ceremonial roles while transferring actual control to more pliable functionaries, as evident from historical precedents.

Who is in charge at present?

There are three significant instances of the CCP Chinese Communist Party (CCP) cutting down to size three notable leaders by reducing their operational authority to simple ceremonial roles, say sources. Currently, real power lies with General Zhang Youxia, the First Vice Chairman of the Central Military Commission (CMC), who is backed by CCP seniors from the Hu Jintao faction, according to top intelligence sources.

Who will be next Chinese leader?

With the weakening of Xi’s ideological control, Wang Yang is being groomed as a reform-oriented future leader and technocrat as highlighted by top intelligence sources who say that although Xi retains his formal titles, his operational dominance is waning across military, economic, and ideological domains.

Intelligence sources have seen the absence of mentions of “Xi Jinping Thought” and the re-emergence of senior party members while the silence of the state-controlled media on Xi indicates an internal power shift. At the same time, China’s economy is grappling 15 per cent youth unemployment and stagnant real estate growth.

Why should India worry?

Whenever there is any internal problem and instability in China, it externalises them, especially against India, assert top intelligence sources. Multiple reshuffles in the PLA Western Theatre Command since late 2024 indicate that field commanders may escalate tensions along the LAC, potentially taking action in Arunachal Pradesh and Ladakh to demonstrate loyalty or distract from domestic issues.
