Railway Rules Change from 1July: From July 1, booking of Tatkal tickets will not be possible without Aadhar linked IRCTC account. Indian Railways has increased the rail fare from July 1, 2025.

After five years, the railways have increased the fare, while the rules of reservation have changed. Not only this, there have been big changes for those with waiting tickets from today.

Railway fare increased from July 1

Indian Railways has increased the rail fare from July 1, 2025. Railways has increased the fare of AC, non-AC coaches in mail to express trains. This fare has been increased according to the distance. From July 1, 2025, the fare of all express, mail trains has been increased. The fare of general non-AC sleeper class and first class has increased by 50 paise per kilometer, while the fare of mail and express non-AC trains has been increased by 1 paisa per kilometer. Similarly, the fare of AC class has increased by 2 paise per kilometer. The fare of second class, sleeper class and first class trains of mail or express trains has increased by 1 paisa per kilometer. At the same time, the fare of AC coaches i.e. AC-3 tier, AC-2 tier and First AC has been increased by 2 paise per kilometer.

Fares increase according to the distance travelled

  • There will be no increase in fares for second class in normal non-AC trains for distances up to 500 km.
  • Fares have been increased by Rs 5 for distances between 501 and 1500 km.
  • Fares for 1501 and 2500 km have increased by Rs 10.
  • Fares for distances between 2501 and 3000 km have increased by Rs 15.
  • Fares for first class and sleeper have increased by half a paisa per kilometer.

Fares of these trains also increased

Fares of premium trains like Vande Bharat, Shatabdi, Rajdhani, Tejas, Duronto, Garib Rath have also been increased. These also include Anubhuti and Vistadome coaches. However, the railways have not increased the fares of suburban trains. Apart from this, the fares of season tickets have also not been increased. However, the railways have not made any changes in the reservation fee, superfast surcharge and other charges. GST will also remain applicable as before.

Relief to those with waiting tickets

The railways have changed the rules giving a big relief on waiting tickets. Now the reservation charts will be issued 8 hours before instead of 4 hours. This will directly benefit those who have waiting tickets. If you have a waiting ticket, now you will know 8 hours before the train departs whether your ticket will be confirmed or not. In 8 hours, you will be able to make some other arrangement for the journey.

Both the timing and rules of Tatkal tickets have changed

From July 1, booking of Tatkal tickets will not be possible from IRCTC account without Aadhar link. That is, from today if you want to book Tatkal tickets, then your IRCTC account will have to be linked to Aadhar. From July 1, 2025, only authenticated users will be able to book Tatkal tickets. Rules have been changed not only for online but also for travel agents. OTP will be mandatory to book Tatkal tickets from July 15 from the railway counter.

Timing of Tatkal tickets also changed for these people

Railways has given extra time to the passengers for convenience. The new rule is shocking for the ticket agent. The window of Tatkal ticket for the ticket agent will be activated 30 minutes after the booking opens. That is, while the booking window for booking Tatkal tickets in AC class opens at 10.00 am, it will open from 10.30 am for agents. Whereas the booking window for non-AC class which opens at 11.00 am, will open for agents from 11.30 am
