Breaking News: Landslide traps 300 tourists in Himachal tunnels; rescue underway in Mandi | ABP NEWS
A major landslide in Himachal Pradesh’s Mandi district has caused serious disruption, leaving 200 to 300 tourists stranded inside tunnels 11 and 13 on the Mandi-Manali National Highway. The landslide occurred near Khargi, where debris fell at both tunnel entrances, halting all vehicular movement. Approximately 70 to 80 tourist vehicles are stuck inside the tunnels, although all tourists are currently safe. According to officials, efforts are ongoing to remove the debris. Food and water have been delivered to those trapped via footpaths, as access for rescue teams on foot remains possible. However, vehicular rescue cannot proceed until the rain stops and further landslides are ruled out. The Beas River is also rising due to continuous rainfall, prompting the evacuation of riverside residents in Hamirpur. Rescue teams safely pulled several people from fast-flowing waters. The Mandi region continues to face landslides and flash floods, with blocked highways and damaged roads. Authorities urge travelers to avoid the area until weather conditions improve. The Indian Meteorological Department has issued a red alert for heavy rain in the region. These events underscore the growing threat of monsoon-related disasters in India's hill states.
