Sony Eyes Rs 10,000 Crore Revenue Milestone Even As Rare Magnets Crunch Impacts TV Segment

Sony India is aiming to cross the Rs 10,000 crore revenue milestone over the next two to three years, driven by continued growth in its audio, imaging, and PlayStation segments. This growth is expected to come despite the company facing industry-wide headwinds during the recently concluded financial year, according to Managing Director Sunil Nayyar.

Speaking to Moneycontrol, Nayyar said, “Overall, we are looking to garner revenues to the tune of Rs 10,000 crore in the next 2–3 years. Despite a tough year for the industry, as a company we grew in FY25 with nearly double-digit growth.

The company ended FY24 with revenues of Rs 7,664 crore, posting a 20.6 per cent year-on-year growth, despite macroeconomic uncertainty. Looking ahead, Sony expects stronger performance in FY26, supported by upcoming product launches and festive season demand.

The company anticipates that consumer appetite for premium offerings will play a significant role in driving growth. Nayyar highlighted a noticeable shift in television purchasing patterns, with increasing demand for larger screen sizes. He noted that while the 32-inch TV sub-segment is shrinking and the 44-inch segment remains stable, models sized 55 inches and above have seen strong growth over the past three years. The 75-inch and above category is expanding at an even faster rate, indicating a clear premiumisation trend among Indian consumers.

No Plans To Increase Prices

Although the company is grappling with supply chain constraints, particularly a shortage of rare earth magnets used in speakers that has impacted the TV business, Nayyar stated that Sony is managing the issue internally and has no current plans to raise prices.

Sony's PlayStation business in India has recorded a fourfold increase over the last three years, while the imaging and medical equipment divisions continue to gain ground. India has emerged as the Japanese electronics major’s fourth-largest market globally, and the company is actively working toward breaking into the top three.

Sony continues to manufacture televisions locally through its OEM partner in Sriperumbudur, Tamil Nadu. The company is also looking to increase local value addition and may consider further expansion under the government’s electronics manufacturing initiatives.
