The CM has written a letter to Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav urging him to consider this proposal. In a letter written on June 19, Rekha Gupta said that this step would be a true tribute to the great Maharaja Agrasen, who is considered a symbol of non-violence, peace and social justice.
According to NDTV report, the Chief Minister wrote in a letter to Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav, “I respectfully request you to consider renaming Old Delhi Railway Station in honor of Maharaja Agrasen. Maharaja Agrasen was a respected historical personality whose legacy has had a profound impact on the socio-economic development of India, especially in Delhi. Renaming the station as Maharaja Agrasen Railway Station will be a true tribute to his lasting contribution and will connect deeply with the sentiments of millions of Delhiites who respect him greatly.”
She said Maharaja Agrasen is considered a symbol of social justice, economic foresight and social welfare. “His countless followers and descendants have been instrumental in shaping the economic and cultural landscape of Delhi,” she said.
Rekha Gupta said I would be really grateful for your personal intervention in favourable and prompt consideration of this proposal by your ministry.
Old Delhi Railway Station was built in 1864
Located in the Chandni Chowk area of the capital, Old Delhi Railway Station is the oldest railway station. Built in 1864, the building of this railway station was designed in the architectural style of the nearby Red Fort. This station, also known as Delhi Junction, remains an important hub in India’s railway network. The station has 18 platforms, out of which two trains with 24 coaches can stand simultaneously on two platforms.
