Hassan Heart Attack Deaths: Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah Says 'Possible Link To COVID-19 Vaccines Will Be Examined'
Hassan (Karnataka), July 01: Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has expressed serious concern after more than 20 people reportedly died due to heart attacks in just one month in Hassan district. The sudden rise in such deaths has alarmed the public and prompted the state government to launch an urgent investigation.
In a detailed statement on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), the Chief Minister said that the government is taking the matter very seriously. He announced the formation of a special expert committee to study the cause behind these sudden deaths.
Committee Formed Under Top Heart Specialist
The CM said that a team has been formed under the leadership of Dr. Ravindranath, Director of the Jayadeva Institute of Cardiovascular Sciences and Research. The committee has been instructed to submit a report within 10 days, identifying the possible causes of the deaths and suggesting solutions.
He also revealed that this same committee was earlier assigned a similar task in February, to study sudden deaths among young people in the state and to examine if COVID-19 vaccines could have any side effects related to heart health. That study is still ongoing and patient data is being analysed.
CM Warns Against Politicising the Issue
In his tweet, CM Siddaramaiah strongly criticised BJP leaders for allegedly politicising the deaths. He condemned their comments and said that such sensitive issues affecting people's lives should not be used for political gain.
“It cannot be denied that the hasty approval and distribution of the COVID vaccine might be a reason for these deaths,” he said, referring to global studies that have raised concerns about the possible link between the vaccine and heart attacks. However, he also stressed that the state is waiting for scientific evidence from the expert committee before drawing conclusions.
State Government Launches Health Schemes
To tackle heart-related health issues, the CM said that the state has already launched programs like Hridaya Jyothi and Gruha Arogya. These schemes aim to monitor public heart health and provide early treatment.
“We value the lives of our children, youth and citizens who have their entire lives ahead of them,” he said. “We are committed to finding the real cause behind these deaths in Hassan and across the state.”
Public Advised Not to Ignore Warning Signs
The Chief Minister also issued an important health advisory, urging people not to ignore symptoms like chest pain or difficulty in breathing.
“If you experience these signs, please visit the nearest health center immediately for a check-up,” he said. “We are doing everything we can to protect people’s health.”
