J&K Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha orders reopening of all closed terror cases that were deliberately buried

The Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir, Manoj Sinha, on Tuesday ordered the reopening of all cases that were deliberately closed to file First Information Reports (FIRs). Sinha was chairing a high-level meeting to review the condition of families who lost their loved ones in terrorist attacks.

“Chaired a high-level meeting today to discuss issues concerning victim families whose loved ones were brutally killed by Pakistan-backed terrorists,” Sinha posted on X, adding that he ordered DCs and SSPs to reopen cases which were deliberately buried and file an FIR. He also directed them to ensure jobs are provided to NoKs on priority.

In another post on X, Sinha stated that DCs and SSPs will free terror victim families' property and land, which were grabbed by terrorists or their sympathisers. “I've directed the officers to identify those elements from the terror ecosystem who were involved in killing of Common Kashmiris and are currently working in Govt Depts,” he added.

He also urged the officials that government jobs should be given on a priority basis to the family members of those killed by terrorists. Sending a strong message against the terrorists, he told officers to free the homes and land of victim families that were taken over by terrorists or their supporters.

He also asked them to find out if any person involved in the killing of innocent people is working in a government office.

To support victim families financially, the LG said that help under the MUDRA loan scheme must be given to those who want to start their small businesses. He said such families should get proper guidance and support for self-employment.

The LG also announced that a Special Cell will be set up in the LG Secretariat to handle complaints and concerns of terror victim families. He said that another cell will be set up in the chief secretary’s office, and a toll-free helpline will be started for help and information.

“Every possible support will be given to the families of terror victims. Those who committed these crimes and are still free will be brought to justice,” he said.

The meeting was attended by Chief Secretary Atal Dulloo, DGP Nalin Prabhat, and other senior officers from police and civil departments.

After the Article 370 move by the BJP, the Centre-backed Union territory administration has come down hard on militants and separatists in Kashmir. Scores of government employees have also been sacked for their involvement in anti-national activities.
