2 killed in separate road mishaps

Two persons lost their lives in separate road accidents in the Dalhousie subdivision of Chamba district.

In the first incident, a teacher died after his car plunged into a deep gorge near the Brangal-Wangal road on Monday evening. The deceased has been identified as Jarm Singh, a resident of Tilodi village in Salooni tehsil. He was returning home from Samah when he lost control on the vehicle at Drabla.

Locals rushed to the spot and informed the police about the accident, following which officials came and sent his body for the post-mortem examination to Dalhousie Civil Hospital.

In another incident on the Banikhet-Khairi road, a youth died while another was seriously injured after their car skidded off near Baderu village and fell 500 m into a gorge. The victims, Karn Singh and his cousin Sumit Thakur, both residents of Chhanui village in Bagdhar panchayat, were returning from Banikhet when the accident occurred on Sunday.

While Karn Singh died on the spot, Sumit Thakur, though injured, managed to survive. He remained alone in the forest for two nights.

Their family members had begun searching for them after they failed to return home. It was on Tuesday morning that villagers noticed signs of a vehicle crash.

The police and villagers launched a search and found Karn’s body and later located Sumit in the jungle with serious injuries. He was rushed to Dalhousie Civil Hospital and later referred to Dr Rajendra Prasad Government Medical College, Tanda.

Dalhousie Deputy Superintendent of Police Hemant Thakur said separate cases had been registered into the incidents, and investigations were ongoing to determine the exact causes behind the same.
