Bindal assumes charge as Himachal BJP president for 3rd time
Rajeev Bindal, who assumed charge as the state BJP president for the third time today, said that the next two years would be challenging and all party workers must work hard to ensure that the corrupt Congress was thrown out of power.
Bindal assumed the charge of the state BJP president in the presence of Union Minister for Science and Technology Jitendra Singh and senior party leaders from the Centre and the state. Leader of the Opposition Jai Ram Thakur, former Union Minister Anurag Thakur, all party MPs, MLAs and office-bearers were present on the occasion.
Bindal said that he would work tirelessly to strengthen the party at the grass-roots level by involving workers. “It is the duty of each and every party worker to work tirelessly to ensure the defeat of the corrupt and incompetent Congress in the 2027 Assembly elections,” he added.
Bindal said, “Even today, the people of the state remember BJP chief ministers for their contributions to the development of the state. While people remember Shanta Kumar for providing drinking water to every house, Prem Kumar Dhumal is credited with expanding the road network to every nook and corner of the state. Jai Ram Thakur is remembered for his selfless service towards the uplift of the weaker sections of society.”
However, Bindal faces the challenge of gearing up the party cadres to ensure the return of the BJP to power in the 2027 Assembly poll. He became the party president for the first time in January 2020 but had to step down in May 2020 following a controversy in the Health Department. However, he made a comeback as was appointed the party chief again in April 2023. This would be his third term as the party chief.
Bindal, a five-time legislator, is admired for his exceptional organisational skills. He was Health Minister in the Dhumal-led BJP government and later remained the Speaker of the Vidhan Sabha. He had resigned from the Speaker’s post to take on the responsibility of the state party president.
Leader of the Opposition Jai Ram Thakur, all Lok Sabha MPs, namely Anurag Thakur (Hamirpur), Suresh Kashyap (Shimla), Kangana Ranaut (Mandi), Rajiv Bhardwaj (Kangra), and Rajya Sabha MPs Indu Goswami, Sikander Kumar and Harsh Mahajan have been elected ex-officio members of the BJP National Council.
Govind Thakur, general secretaries Bihari Lal Sharma and Trilok Kapoor, Kangra MLA Pawan Kajal, Rashmidhar Sood, Payal Vaidya, Rajiv Sehjal and Sanjeev Katwal have been appointed members of the BJP National Council.
