Brief: Couple booked for cheating

Phagwara: The Mehatpur police have booked a couple and a deed writer on charges of cheating and using casteist remarks. The accused have been identified as Ramdeep Singh of Naurangpur village under Shahkot and presently living in Garden Colony, Nakodar, his wife Mandeep Kaur; and Ranjit Singh Ranna, deed writer and resident of Kular village. Ashwani Kumar of Khurampur village in Mehatpur complained to the police that the accused cheated him of Rs 5 lakh on the pretext of installing a solar system and when he demanded his money back, Ramdeep and Ranjit abused him and used remarks against him. oc

Fifth arrest for murder, firing

Phagwara: The police have arrested the fifth accused on charges of murder and firing. The accused has been identified as Dilpreet Singh, alias Vishal of Kang Sahibu village. The accused and his accomplices had shot Jugraj of Mehmuwal Yusafpur village in Shahkot during a fight between two groups on June 18. Kavita, the wife of the deceased, had complained to the police that she, along with her family, was in the house on June 18 when they heard firing outside and her husband hurriedly went to the main gate. One gunshot hit her husband, killing him. oc

Phagwara: The Mehatpur police have booked 10 persons on the charge of assaulting a villager. The accused have been identified as Gurpreet and Harpreet, residents of Aadramann village, and their eight unidentified accomplices. Sukhdev Lal of the village complained to the police that the accused barged into his house and attacked him with a weapon and injured him and threatened him with dire consequences. oc

Phagwara: The Shahkot police have arrested two persons on charge of stealing motor wires from farmers’ fields. The accused has been identified as Pawan Kumar, alias Niku, of Kohar Kalan village and his brother Daljit Singh, alias Gagu. Ravindar Kaur of the village complained to the police that the accused stole wires from her and other motors. oc

Booked for stealing cash

Phagwara: The Nurmahal police have arrested some persons for stealing cash and other items from a shop. Satish Kumar of Mohalla Gujran, Nurmahal, complained to the police that the accused barged into his shop on May 31 and stole Rs 12,000, four CCTV cameras with DVD, and 40 kg of Pedigree. A case had been registered against the accused. oc

Jalandhar: The Commissionerate Police apprehended 15 proclaimed offenders (POs) in June. Commissioner of Police Dhanpreet Kaur said teams from the PO staff and various police stations conducted multiple targeted raids. Since March, the police have arrested 54 POs. tns
