Jennifer Aniston to play Jennette McCurdy’s mother in new series based on her memoir ‘I’m Glad My Mom Died’

Jennifer Aniston is all set to star in the series based on Jennette McCurdy’s 2022 memoir I’m Glad My Mom Died, backed by Apple TV+. The 10-episode series will be written, bankrolled and run by McCurdy and Ari Katcher. McCurdy had risen to stardom with her role as Sam Puckett on the Nickelodeon sitcom iCarly, a character which she had also reprised on the spin-off series Sam & Cat.

The memoir is a dark recounting of the iCarly star’s struggles as a former child actor, all the while dealing with her domineering and overbearing mother; written with a touch of humour. It chronicles the forms of abuse the actress underwent by her mother, Debra McCurdy, including how she was conditioned into eating disorders. Published by Simon and Schuster, it is one of the most buzzworthy celebrity books to date, through its eye-catching title and earnest reflections regarding child fame. The memoir had also spent over eighty weeks on the New York Times Best Seller list.
According to the official logline, the series focuses on “the codependent relationship between an 18-year-old actress in a hit kids’ show, and her narcissistic mom who relishes in her identity as a starlet’s mother,” Aniston will portray Debra in the dramedy.

Additionally, Aniston will also executive produce the series. Sharon Horgan and Stacy Greenberg will also bankroll the film under their Merman production banner, along with Dani Gorin, Tom Ackerley and Josey McNamara for LuckyChap.
The project will mark Aniston’s latest collaboration with Apple TV+, following The Morning Show, which is also produced by Aniston and co-star Reese Witherspoon. The Emmy, SAG and Critics Choice Award-winning series follows the rollercoaster lives of network TV news anchors and is scheduled for a fourth season on September 17.
