A group of Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) terrorists were trapped in Chatroo area of Kishtwar district in Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday evening after encounter with security forces.
Officials believe that two to three JeM terrorists are trapped in the heavily forested Kuchal locality in Chatroo. "Based on specific intelligence, a joint search operation was underway in Kanzal Mandu, Kishtwar. Contact has been established with the terrorists, and operations are in progress," the White Knight Corps posted on X.
It was a joint operation carried out by the Indian Army, the CRPF and the Jammu and Kashmir Police. They reportedly received specific intelligence inputs regarding movement of JeM terrorists in the locality.
According to officials, the gunfire began after the security forces launched a search and cordon operation in Chatroo. The terrorists opened fire after noticing the presence of security search parties.
The authorities have sent reinforcements to the area in order tighten the cordon operation and neutralise the terrorists, said officials.
The latest development comes less than two months after a soldier was killed in a gunfight with terrorists in Singhpora area of Chatroo in Kishtwar district. Two terrorists were also killed in the May encounter.
Security forces have beefed up security in Jammu and Kashmir following the deadly Pahalgam terror attack that claimed the lives of 26 civilians. They have also intensified anti-terror operations in Kashmir valley, arresting several individuals over anti-national activities.
