Two J&K residents among 8 nabbed with drugs, cash

Punjab Police have arrested eight drug smugglers, including two residents of Jammu and Kashmir, in separate operations in Ferozepur and Amritsar. The police seized over 4 kg of heroin, 400 gm of ice (drug), besides others intoxicants and Rs 2.9 lakh drug money and a currency counting machine from them.

Ferozepur SSP Bhupinder Singh said two youths identified as Bhuvnesh Singh and Dhairawar Singh, both residents of Samba in J&K, had been nabbed with 400 gm ice, also known as crystal methamphetamine.

A Ferozepur CIA team nabbed Karan (19) and Gurjant Singh (24), both residents of Palla Megha village with 1.552 kg heroin, adding that the accused had been booked under Section 21 of the NDPS Act at the Sadar police station.

In another operation, a person identified as Ranjit Singh (18) was nabbed with 222 gm heroin from Satiye Wala road on the outskirts of the city.

In Amritsar, the Counter Intelligence (CI) Wing of the police have busted a cross-border narcotics and illegal arms smuggling module with Pakistan links, arresting three operatives and seizing eight sophisticated weapons, one kg of heroin and Rs 2.9 lakh drug money.

Those arrested have been identified as Sarabjit Singh and Kulwinder Singh from Ferozepur and Ashmandeep Singh from Tarn Taran. The seized weapons include three 9 mm Glock pistols, three .30-bore Chinese pistols and two .30-bore PX-5 pistols. Police teams have also seized a currency counting machine from their possession, besides, impounding their motorcycle being used for transporting the consignments.

DGP Gaurav Yadav in a statement said preliminary investigations revealed that the accused were acting on the directions of Pakistan-based smuggler Sikandar Noor, who had been using drones to drop weapon consignments from across the border. The accused were distributing the arms to gangsters across Punjab.
