Repair dilapidated govt school buildings, CM Rekha orders officials

Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Wednesday chaired a high-level review meeting with senior officials of the Education Department at the Delhi Secretariat, focusing on improving infrastructure in government schools, strengthening digital learning, and filling vacant teaching positions.

Reiterating her government’s commitment to delivering equitable and world-class education, the Chief Minister said, “It is our firm resolve that every child in Delhi, regardless of background, should receive equal opportunity and world-class education. We are working with full commitment on both resource and policy levels to make this a reality.”

During the meeting, CM Gupta issued several key directives to overhaul the state’s public education system. She instructed that all government schools be equipped with modern science laboratories to enable hands-on, experiment-based learning and cultivate scientific thinking among students.

In addition, the CM directed officials to urgently identify school buildings in poor condition and undertake their repair and renovation on a war footing.

She also extended her focus beyond schools, instructing the concerned departments to improve the entry gate structures of Thyagaraj and Chhatrasal stadiums and prioritise repair work for the benefit of athletes and sportspersons using these facilities.

Highlighting the importance of adequate teaching staff, CM Gupta directed the Education Department to fill all teacher vacancies across Delhi government schools without delay. She stressed that consistent, high-quality education is only possible if all teaching positions — from primary to senior secondary — are staffed with qualified, trained, and motivated professionals.

Another major announcement from the meeting was the swift operationalisation of 2,000 smart classrooms in the first phase of a digital education push. The Chief Minister instructed that each classroom must be fully equipped with internet connectivity, interactive panels, projectors, and audio-visual aids to modernise the learning experience.
